A 2019 survey by Consumer Reports found that a quarter of the participants had replaced their OTC drugs with CBD. Ever since the farm bill 2018 has been passed, people have started looking at the favorable nature of cannabidiol.
CBD is a cannabinoid that comes from the cannabis plant. This component can interact with the endocannabinoid system of the body that controls sleep, mood, and pain response. It is used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis, arthritis, epilepsy among other ailments.
Ever since its many benefits have come to the fore, people are preferring it over prescriptions drugs. Why is that so? Is not marijuana dangerous, addictive, and a carrier of psychoactive properties? In truth, it is just the tetrahydrocannabinol in the herb that can make you high, not the CBD.
And even this THC has half a medicinal nature which is why it has also been used as part of the medical industry. To compare cannabidiol and OTC drugs, here’s a list of reasons why the former is gradually taking over the latter:
1 – Fewer Side Effects
When given the option of using cannabidiol, many people hesitate. The first and foremost reason for that is the worry of what adverse side effects it could bring along. In truth, the negative side effects of medical cannabis are not that disturbing.
Just pick up any OTC drug and you’d notice how harmful the side effects mentioned right there on the label are. Ranging from internal bleeding to the risk of stroke, prescription drugs only come off as less daunting because we are used to of them.
In comparison, the negative side effects associated to CBD use include minor complications such as nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, and irritability. All you as a user are required to focus on are the concentration and strain of the medical marijuana that you do end up using.
2 – Less Costly
When you compare the prices of CBD products and prescription meds, you’d see that the former is comparatively cheaper. Where a single prescription drug can cost you about $2000 in the US on a yearly basis, CBD tinctures would come for half the price.
And then look at the benefits you get from both and you’d see that people find CBD better. A survey found that 60 percent of respondents found CBD to be more effective than pharmaceuticals. Moreover, 75 percent of people found CBD to be more effective than OTC remedies. Clearly, CBD is more preferable.
Though cannabidiol can treat a myriad of health issues, it is not some elixir that can cure all health problems. Therefore, you may still require prescribed meds for many of your health concerns. The point is not that you should ditch OTC drugs but when the choice between those and CBD arises, cannabidiol may be a way better option.
