Cannabinoids have been studied extensively in the last decade and CBD has emerged as a ‘savior’ of sorts. The substance which comes from the cannabis plant is often praised for the many ways it can improve your health. After all, it boasts an array of medicinal properties including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-anxiety characteristics.

But can CBD really help with any and all conditions? No, the substance does have some harmful side effects of use. These may not be as serious as those that accompany the consumption of other drugs though. Some of its common side effects include diarrhea and nausea.

CBD for Tinnitus

Tinnitus is an auditory condition that affects a person’s hearing. About 50 million Americans have it. Research hasn’t yet found the exact cause and treatment of the neurological ailment. Tinnitus involves a constant ringing that only the person who has the condition can hear. It may also cause some hearing loss.

In the absence of a proper treatment route, people with this condition try various remedies and meds. In search of some herb that might help alleviate tinnitus, researchers and people alike have tried cannabis. So, has it helped?

Not really. It was thought that cannabis could help with tinnitus because of the way it works. Cannabinoids such as CBD interact with the CB1 and CB2 receptors found in the brain. By doing so they can improve your hearing. However, a 2015 study found that CBD cannot help with tinnitus. If anything, it can worsen the condition.

It may even result in the onset of tinnitus symptoms. Therefore, if you think that you are likely to struggle with tinnitus or have the condition, it is better to avoid CBD. It is not yet known why CBD facilitates tinnitus. This is because research in this area is thin.

Should You Use CBD For Tinnitus?

As mentioned above, CBD doesn’t have a positive effect on tinnitus. People who have tried it have given mixed reviews. However, the one confusing aspect of cannabidiol is that it has a different effect on everyone. So, while most people may complain how it triggers tinnitus, some might argue that it helps.

Some people use CBD for the symptoms that accompany the internal ringing in their ears such as anxiety and sleep issues. However, looking at the limited research and the almost non-existent favorable evidence, it is better to not use CBD for tinnitus.

Verdict

Though often called a miracle cure, CBD cannot help with tinnitus. So far the studies conducted have showed that it can increase the symptoms of tinnitus or even result in its onset among people who don’t have the condition. Therefore, if you have the condition or you fear it, don’t use CBD. People who have tried CBD for tinnitus haven’t been impressed by the results.
